Child Safety Standards

Our standards against child sexual abuse and exploitation

Last updated: 2 May 2026

Koi (operated by Koi Labs Pty Ltd) has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and any form of child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) on our platform. This page describes how we prevent, detect, and respond to CSAE in accordance with Google Play's policies and applicable law.

1. Prohibited content and conduct

The following are strictly prohibited on Koi:

  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) of any kind, including images, video, audio, drawings, animations, or written content depicting minors in a sexual context.
  • Sexualised commentary about minors.
  • Grooming behaviour, sextortion, or any attempt to engage minors in sexual conversation or activity.
  • Solicitation of CSAM, including requests, offers, or trades.
  • Off-platform coordination of CSAE-related activity using Koi as a contact mechanism.

Users found engaging in any of the above are immediately and permanently banned. Their accounts and associated data are preserved for law-enforcement disclosure as legally required.

2. Eligibility

Koi is intended for users 18 years of age or older. Account creation requires age verification, including third-party identity verification provided by Veriff. Accounts found to belong to minors are removed immediately, and any associated content is preserved per Section 5.

3. Reporting CSAE

Anyone — Koi user or not — can report CSAE in the following ways:

  • In-app: open the app, navigate to Settings → Report a User or use the report option on any profile or chat.
  • Email: hello@koiapp.io — monitored by our Trust & Safety team. Reports are triaged within 24 hours.
  • Anonymous reporting: you do not need to identify yourself. We accept and act on anonymous reports.

If you believe a child is in immediate danger, contact local law enforcement first.

4. Prevention and detection

We take the following measures to prevent CSAE on Koi:

  • Age verification on signup via government-issued ID and selfie (Veriff).
  • Automated detection of known CSAM using industry-standard hash matching on uploaded media.
  • Automated detection of grooming language patterns and high-risk conversation markers in chat.
  • Human moderation of escalated reports by our Trust & Safety team.
  • Account-takeover protection, including multi-factor authentication on sensitive operations and rate limiting on profile creation.
  • Continuous training of our Trust & Safety team on CSAE indicators and emerging threats.

5. Legal compliance and law-enforcement reporting

Koi complies with all applicable laws regarding CSAE, including but not limited to:

  • Australia: Reporting to the eSafety Commissioner under the Online Safety Act 2021, and to the Australian Federal Police where required.
  • United States: Reporting to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline, including reports required under 18 U.S.C. § 2258A for instances involving U.S. users or content.
  • European Union: Compliance with the Digital Services Act and applicable Member-State laws.
  • United Kingdom: Cooperation with the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF).

We respond promptly to lawful requests for information from law enforcement and preserve evidence as required.
