Delete your Koi account

Account & data deletion for Koi (by Koi Labs Pty Ltd)

Last updated: 2 May 2026

You can permanently delete your Koi account, and the personal data associated with it, directly from inside the app. This page describes the steps and explains what we delete, what we keep, and for how long.

How to delete your account in the app

  1. Open the Koi app on your device.
  2. Tap the menu icon (top-left), then tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the Settings screen and tap Delete your account.
  4. Press and hold the confirmation button to confirm the deletion request. Optionally tell us why you're leaving — this is anonymous and not required.

Once you confirm, your session is ended immediately and the deletion is queued. You will be signed out across all devices.

If you can't access the app

If you no longer have access to your Koi account (for example, you lost your phone or can't receive the SMS one-time code), email hello@koiapp.io from the email address on your Koi profile and ask us to delete your account. We'll verify your identity, then process the deletion within 14 days.

What gets deleted

When you delete your account we permanently remove the following from our active systems within 30 days:

  • Your profile (name, age, photos, prompts, preferences)
  • Your phone number and email address
  • Your matches and chat history
  • Your match recommendations and the data we use to generate them
  • Your verification status and any biometric vectors held for photo verification
  • Device tokens used for push notifications
  • App-usage analytics tied to your account

What we keep, and for how long

A small set of records is retained after deletion only where legally required, or where retention is necessary to keep other users safe. Specifically:

  • Safety and abuse records: reports and moderation actions taken against your account are retained so we can prevent banned users from re-registering, and to cooperate with law-enforcement and child-safety authorities. See our Child Safety Standards for more detail.
  • Financial / billing records: transaction metadata required by Australian taxation and accounting law (typically 7 years).
  • Identity verification artefacts: records from third-party verification providers (e.g. Veriff) are retained per the provider's legal-compliance schedule, separate from your Koi profile.
  • Backups: data may persist in encrypted, time-bound system backups for up to 35 days before being overwritten.

Requesting partial deletion or data export

If you want to delete a specific item (e.g. a single photo or chat) without closing your account, you can do so directly inside the app. For data-export or other privacy-rights requests, email hello@koiapp.io.
